A pay rise beats an animated thank-you GIF because the GIF can be produced by terrible employers in exactly the same quantity as good ones. Words are cheap and infinitely renewable. A warranty is more persuasive than a paragraph about quality because a defective product makes the promise hurt. A salesperson who recommends the cheaper option has spent revenue to make “long-term relationship” believable.
Cost is not proof by itself. Companies can incinerate money on marble reception desks, glossy films and exhibition stands large enough to develop their own weather. That may signal confidence. Ask what the organisation is prepared to risk: time, margin, convenience, opportunity or the freedom to wriggle out later. “Easy returns” means more when the returns button is actually easy to find. “Transparent pricing” means more when the price exists outside a discovery call. “We listen” means more when somebody changes the decision.
Talk is not worthless. It points at the evidence. But arriving alone and expecting a standing ovation is how a promise gets mistaken for cabaret.
